About the area

Restaurant: We can recommend ‘All Hus’ restaurant for your lunch (€ 7.00 - € 10.00) or evening meal. It is frequented by many locals, who often have lunch there, and is at a mere 150 metres walking distance from ‘Linnaeus B&B Guesthouse’.

Sauna: On Fridays, from 5-7 pm, you can use the sauna for 10 Swedish crowns, which is about € 1.10.

Supermarket: There is a supermarket near a garage with a petrol station at a ten-minute walk away. Other shops can be found in Tingsryd.

Tingsryd is situated on a large lake and has a regional function. It has a splendid indoor swimming pool and is renowned for its racecourse and ice-hockey team. The vast 4-star camping site along the lake is always fully occupied during the high season.

Kosta glass: The region is famous for its glass and is has become known as ‘The Kingdom of Crystal’. Artists have turned the old craft into real art. Kosta glass is very famous indeed. There is an interesting glassworks route, see http://www.nyaglasshopen.se/.

Cycling through the serene woods, enjoying the intense peace of the tranquil lakes and babbling brooks to Korrö is quite an experience. Korrö Village Museum, also known as ‘Sweden in miniature’, is an extraordinary attraction with its red timber houses with their typical white window and door frames. It is also a good spot for hiring a canoe (€ 7.00 per hour).

Elk: The elk is Sweden’s national symbol, a number of them have to be shot to prevent overpopulation. There is an elk park in Kosta where you can watch the world’s largest deer in its natural environment from a close distance, see www.moosepark.net You can have a lovely meal at the excellent restaurant, with elk on the menu.

Nature-campsite: There is a nature-campsite in Dangebo, which is at half an hour walking distance. People who like tranquillity can enjoy a swim in clean and very clear water in unspoilt nature. A stay at this municipal camping site with simple, but clean, sanitary facilities will cost you only € 7.00 per night for a caravan. It is a rural and quiet place and ideal for painting.

Fishing: As Konga is situated in an area that is scattered with lakes, it is a real angler’s paradise where you can fish for salmon, pike, perch, eel, etc., see www.sportfiskecentrum.com The fish smokehouse of South Småland - rökta, färska och gravade fiskdelikatesser lax, gös, gädda, abborre och ål (smoked, fresh and marinated fish and delicacies) - is well worth visiting, see http://www.come.to/urshult

Växjö: Shopping in Växjö. Växjö is a bustling town with a wide range of nice shops and trendy boutiques, just perfect for an afternoon shopping spree.

Travelling by car to Konga from the continent is easiest via Hamburg and then the Puttgarden - Rodby ferry. Crossing by ferry takes about an hour and after a long drive it is nice to be able to stretch your legs and have something to eat and/or drink. From the ferry it is about 150 km to Copenhagen and the magnificent Öresund Bridge linking Denmark and Sweden. When you have crossed the bridge you travel from Malmö to Karlshamn and from there you travel along the Växjö road till Tingsryd where you take the Emmaboda road. Drive along that road until the junction at the petrol station/caravan dealer’s. Do not turn off the road before the petrol station, even if your GPS directs you to do so, for the shortcut is not accessible for cars anymore. Take the first road on your right, then the first left and then you have arrived at your destination: Linnaeus Guesthouse, Lövestigen 3, Konga. The distance between Tingsryd and Konga is 10 km.

By Plane: Småland Airport, which is only a few kilometers from Växjö, is the nearest airport. A return flight from Düsseldorf/Weeze Airport (Germany) to Småland Airport is surprisingly cheap. There is a bus service from Växjö to Tingsryd, where you change buses to Konga. If required, we can also meet you at the airport. It is, of course, also possible to hire a car via Internet. You can hire a car, from €105.00, at Europcar or Hertz and it is sensible to book early.

We bid you a warm welcome and wish you a very pleasant stay at our guest house.
